Artist's note

“A is a four-leaf clover picker, who does a similar job to Simmani (a man who specializes in picking wild ginseng). Here’s a thought: Maybe an example of A’s know-how could be found while he explores a demolished building in an area set for redevelopment. This place, one filled with discarded fluorescent lamps, spent liquor bottles, and concrete debris is an ideal environment for the four-leaf clover to bloom, more so than natural ground with plentiful light and water. A green four-leaf clover rises above the cracks of a dystopian landscape, one that has collapsed: A cheat code has been found, making A one lucky old thing! Returning home, A blended and drank the four-leaf clovers he had collected.” This work is based on the myth that the four-leaf clover occurs more frequently in an artificial environment under the influence of human hands, than in a wild environment. In this work, a four-leaf clover was used to metaphorize the unique psychology of a man who yearns for good luck as a mutation.

Introduction

You are inside the vinyl greenhouse, the semi-cylinder-shaped plant pavilion. The artist filled this space with all sorts of wastes of civilization: removed concrete blocks, broken fluorescent lights, and glass bottle shards. Yet, surprisingly, a four-leaf clover is actually growing in the seemingly dangerous space. If you scan a QR code on the surface of the broken concrete blocks with a smartphone, you can see a virtual four-leaf clover implemented with AR technology. Likewise, the artist brought into her work the hypothesis that a four-leaf clover grows better in nature near humans rather than in pristine nature.  A four-leaf clover is a deformed version of a three-leaf clover. But as it is rare, it is considered to bring luck. If so, at least here, we can say luck is not far.
